Linkage System : Introduction

Linkage system is a set of connected links (or bars) that move relative to each other: Motion of one bar affects the motion of all the other connected bars.

How to analyze a linkage system ?

Analysis of a linkage system is all about the analysis of the motion of each component (nodes) in the system. Motion of a linkage system is based on a combination of translation and rotation

Where do we see linkage systems?

Followings are some of the common example / application of the linkage system.

  • Piston of a vehicle
  • Braking system in vehicle
  • 4-bar hand clamp
  • Heavy construction equipment – bulldozers, cranes, tractors, etc.
