FCC Search

Most of Wireless Product used in America (Most North America) should be approved by FCC and it gets FCC ID when it is approved. There wouldn't be many cases where you need to follow these up, but I sometimes search a product in FCC Database mainly to find some technical document which does not comes with the product when you purchase it.

In this page, I will show you how to find the information of a product in FCC data base. It is very simple and you woudn't need any explanation.. but I thought it would worth writing down something since I had to go through a couple of trial-and-error to get used to this search system.

If you are using any Wireless device, you may find a label titled 'FCC ID' sticked to somewhere on the product. The FCC ID looks like 'N4ZIA6C00'.

If you go to FCC ID Search Page, you would see a simple imput form as shown below. (The design of the page may vary over time.. so you may get a little bit of different looking form, but the item of the input field would not change).

The first thing that I got confused when I first tried this is 'why there are two input field whereas FCC ID is only single Code'. How can I get the two input informations from the single FCC ID. Of course, you would figure it out on your own if you read carefully the short description above each of the input field. But like many people, I often just try it without reading the details (just like not so many people read product manual before they plug in a TV or PC that they purchased). At first, I just typed in the whole FCC code in one of the input box but it just gave me 'No Matched Product'.

Actually the single FCC Code is made up two parts as in the below example.

N4ZIA6C00 : The Red part represented 'Grantee Code' and the Blue part represents the Product Code.

NOTE : It says the Grantee Code can be 5 characters.. but for all the example that I tried the Grantee Code were 3 characters.

Then you can type in the FCC ID as shown below. Actually you don't need to type in both field .. type in any one field would give you the result as well.. but in that case you mayget pretty long list of the search result

Hit [Search] button and you would get the search reasult as shown below.

Then click on 'Detail Summary' and you would get the list of documents as shown below. The scope of the document would vary depending on the product. In some case, you would get only the list of the document without the document file.
