In Cellular Communication the received power at Base Station varies drastically depending on distance between the base station and UE(mobile phone) and other channel conditions. To maintain the received power at base station constant (at least not drastically changing), the cellular system is using very sophisticated algorithm to control / adjust the transmission power of UE. This algorithm/mechanism is called 'Power Control'. In most cellular communication(at least 3G, 4G, 5G), there are largely two types of power control mechanism called Open Loop Power Control and Closed Loop Power Control.
