NR - CSI Beam Management

 

In this slides, it is assumed that periodic CSI-RS is configured and the CSI measurement report is set to be periodic as well. SSB 0, 1, 2 are transmitted but it is assumed that SSB is not directly involved in the measurement report.

It is also assume that only line-of-sight beam can be associated with UE (i.e, not reflectors present in this setting).

 

Followings are the descriptions on each slide.

 

[1] It is at the slot where csi-rs 64 is configured. UE may detect SSB 0(wide beam) but it does not detect the csi-rs 64(narrow beam) since UE and csi-rs is not in line with each other.

 

[2] It is at the slot where csi-rs 65 is configured. UE may detect SSB 0(wide beam) but it does not detect the csi-rs 65(narrow beam) since UE and csi-rs is not in line with each other.

 

[3] It is at the slot where csi-rs 66 is configured. UE may detect SSB 0(wide beam) but it does not detect the csi-rs 66(narrow beam) since UE and csi-rs is not in line with each other.

 

[4] It is at the slot where csi-rs 67 is configured. UE may detect SSB 0(wide beam) and it DETECT the csi-rs 67(narrow beam) since UE and csi-rs is in line with each other. (Probably in a few slot later) UE report csi-rs 67 to gNB. (Probably in a few slot later) gNB sends MAC-CE with tci list which are colocated with the SSB 0 (i.e, 0,1,2,3 in this case). (Probably in a few slot later) gNB sends DCI 1_1 with the TCI index pointing to csi-rs 67 (i.e, 3 in this example) and transmit PDSCH using the beam 67.

 

[5] It is at the slot where csi-rs 68 is configured. UE may detect SSB 1(wide beam) but it does not detect the csi-rs 68(narrow beam) since UE and csi-rs is not in line with each other. If gNB wants to transmit the pdsch to the UE, it sends DCI with tci index 3 (the latest csi reported by the UE).

 

[6] It is at the slot where csi-rs 69 is configured. UE may detect SSB 1(wide beam) but it does not detect the csi-rs 69(narrow beam) since UE and csi-rs is not in line with each other. If gNB wants to transmit the pdsch to the UE, it sends DCI with tci index 3 (the latest csi reported by the UE).

 

[7] It is at the slot where csi-rs 70 is configured. UE may detect SSB 1(wide beam) but it does not detect the csi-rs 70(narrow beam) since UE and csi-rs is not in line with each other. If gNB wants to transmit the pdsch to the UE, it sends DCI with tci index 3 (the latest csi reported by the UE).

 

[8] It is at the slot where csi-rs 71 is configured. UE may detect SSB 1(wide beam) but it does not detect the csi-rs 71(narrow beam) since UE and csi-rs is not in line with each other. If gNB wants to transmit the pdsch to the UE, it sends DCI with tci index 3 (the latest csi reported by the UE).

 

[9] It is at the slot where csi-rs 72 is configured. UE may detect SSB 2(wide beam) but it does not detect the csi-rs 72(narrow beam) since UE and csi-rs is not in line with each other. If gNB wants to transmit the pdsch to the UE, it sends DCI with tci index 3 (the latest csi reported by the UE).

 

[10] It is at the slot where csi-rs 73 is configured. UE may detect SSB 2(wide beam) but it does not detect the csi-rs 73(narrow beam) since UE and csi-rs is not in line with each other. If gNB wants to transmit the pdsch to the UE, it sends DCI with tci index 3 (the latest csi reported by the UE).

 

[11] It is at the slot where csi-rs 74 is configured. UE may detect SSB 2(wide beam) but it does not detect the csi-rs 74(narrow beam) since UE and csi-rs is not in line with each other. If gNB wants to transmit the pdsch to the UE, it sends DCI with tci index 3 (the latest csi reported by the UE).

 

[12] It is at the slot where csi-rs 75 is configured. UE may detect SSB 2(wide beam) but it does not detect the csi-rs 75(narrow beam) since UE and csi-rs is not in line with each other. If gNB wants to transmit the pdsch to the UE, it sends DCI with tci index 3 (the latest csi reported by the UE).

 

[13] Now UE moves to a different position. It is at the slot where csi-rs 64 is configured. UE may detect SSB 0(wide beam) but it does not detect the csi-rs 64(narrow beam) since UE and csi-rs is not in line with each other.

 

[14] It is at the slot where csi-rs 65 is configured. UE may detect SSB 0(wide beam) and it DETECT the csi-rs 65(narrow beam) since UE and csi-rs is in line with each other. (Probably in a few slot later) UE report csi-rs 65 to gNB. (Probably in a few slot later) gNB sends MAC-CE with tci list which are colocated with the SSB 0 (i.e, 0,1,2,3 in this case). (Probably in a few slot later) gNB sends DCI 1_1 with the TCI index pointing to csi-rs 65 (i.e, 1 in this example) and transmit PDSCH using the beam 65.

 

[15] It is at the slot where csi-rs 66 is configured. UE may detect SSB 0(wide beam) but it does not detect the csi-rs 66(narrow beam) since UE and csi-rs is not in line with each other. NW is transmitting the PDSCH for this UE using the previously reported beam (csi-rs 65 in this example).

 

[16] It is at the slot where csi-rs 67 is configured. UE may detect SSB 0(wide beam) but it does not detect the csi-rs 67(narrow beam) since UE and csi-rs is not in line with each other. NW is transmitting the PDSCH for this UE using the previously reported beam (csi-rs 65 in this example).

 

[17] Now UE moves to a different position. It is at the slot where csi-rs 68 is configured. UE may detect SSB 1(wide beam) but it does not detect the csi-rs 68(narrow beam) since UE and csi-rs is not in line with each other.

 

[18] It is at the slot where csi-rs 69 is configured. UE may detect SSB 1(wide beam) but it does not detect the csi-rs 69(narrow beam) since UE and csi-rs is not in line with each other.

 

[19] It is at the slot where csi-rs 70 is configured. UE may detect SSB 1(wide beam) and it DETECT the csi-rs 70(narrow beam) since UE and csi-rs is in line with each other.
